Forbes just released its annual list of the Celebrity 100, a ranking of the most powerful stars including film and television actors, TV personalities, models, athletes, authors, musicians and comedians, based on both fame and annual pre-tax earnings (from May 2011 to May 2012). Here's a round-up of where these moneyed stars spend their nights catching beauty sleep and dodging paparazzi. Realtor.com, Trulia.com and others helped us unearth properties bought and sold in the past year as well as a few long-term abodes A-listers have clung to. There are even a few rentals, like this Calabasas estate called Chateau Suenos where pop star Britney Spears rented until last year following her infamous "meltdown."

The 'American Idol' TV producer-host is in escrow on Ellen DeGeneres' Beverly Hills compound (pictured above), which touts 15,000 square feet of living space, three guest houses, a swimming pool and koi ponds. He is buying the property despite having not yet found a buyer for his Hollywood Hills Mediterranean, once owned by Kevin Costner and touting five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a pool, a guest house and tennis courts. That home is back on the market for $12 million after initially asking $14.95 million in 2010.

Ellen DeGeneresDespite the fact that DeGeneres and her wife Portia De Rossi had yet to sell their $49 million Beverly Hills home (now in contract to Ryan Seacrest), the couple bought a 4,100-square foot waterfront home in January that Brad Pitt remodeled following his split from Jen Aniston and then listed for sale. The gated estate has four bedrooms, a lap pool, a tennis court and access to a private beach cove. Now the couple is reportedly in contract on a Beverly Hills Hal-Levitt-designed abode down the street from their soon-to-be-sold compound. That 8,500-square foot property has walls of glass, four bedrooms, six bathrooms and a family room that opens onto a pool area.

The house, with its floor-to-ceiling windows and cantilevered rooms and balconies overlooking Lake Hollywood, was rented by Kutcher prior to his purchase.

Rumors have swirled that he chose this after a rumored attempt to buy the home Ashton Kutcher had been renting was thwarted by Kutcher's decision to buy it.

The newest conquest is this 8,500-square foot mid-century Modern house that sits behind high gates on three acres that include vineyards.

Brady also recently unloaded his NYC Time Warner Center penthouse (pictured in previous slide) for $17.5 million to Green Mountain Coffee billionaire Robert Stiller and has his Boston, Mass. penthouse listed for $10.5 million as well.

After renting a paparazzi-immune manse in Calabasas, Calif. from 2009 to 2011, Spears settled on another rental in December that boasts 10,000-square feet of living space, an infinity pool, a gym, a home theater and a pub with billiards table.

In New York City, DiCaprio inhabits a apartment in eco-chic Riverhouse, a Battery Park City condo that pumps out twice-filtered air and filtered water to residents, who include Tyra Banks.

Winfrey never resided in the 4,600-square foot co-op, opting for a duplex a few miles away instead.
